Training Methodology

Louws Training is based on our belief that a person's competency can be improved with training. Permanency of result is obtained by:

Axiom I: "Addressing the cause eradicates the symptom."

For example, teaching "eye contact" doesn't address why the person wasn't looking in the first place and so he will cease to practice this new "skill" shortly after the end of a course. Instead, knowing why, addressing it and giving a person the skills to pay more attention to one’s audience than oneself, one’s material, visual aids and the like, will exponentially increase a person’s ability to command attention and move an audience to their desired action.

Axiom II: "Knowledge is as useful as it can be applied."

Axiom III: "Good communication is a fundamental key to success."

Effective communication is the basis for all our Workshops, whether in Presentation Skills, Public Speaking, Writing, Negotiating, Consultative Selling, or Meeting the Press.

Those who would teach mechanics such as "eye contact, gestures and voice modulation" do a disservice to all. Louws Management helps students understand their "basics" first, many of which have been long forgotten.

Magically, students then gesture and are interesting to listen to - without having been taught "what" to do with their hands or "how" to modulate their voice. We teach those fundamentals that naturally produce a professional and effective communicator.

In a nutshell, we do not teach students to get their points across – instead we teach them to ensure their audiences receive, understand and in most cases “buy into” their points.

Axiom IV: "Coaching, not just teaching, gets results."

It is this principle that has made the Workshops at Louws rank among the most effective in the field of communications training.

Cliché or not, "Practice makes perfect" is a truism. Our trainers are taught (unlike many in the business) to prefer hearing the sounds of their students' voices rather than their own.

Every skill taught is immediately followed by a series of drills and exercises, allowing students to practice the skills that collectively add up to a more polished, enticing and competent speaker.

Axiom V: "The design of a training service is as important as its content."

This holds particularly true in the design of a Workshop. It is here that Louws excels above and beyond its class.

The practice, content and coaching elements have been balanced to ensure: a) a gradient learning approach where each new skill taught is slightly more advanced than the last, and b) that no one leaves the course without first demonstrating an improved application of a skill.

It is this principle that allows Louws to offer a 100% refund for anyone who believes they have not improved – an offer that in 23 years in business has only been exercised twice.
